Stoned at JazzFest

JazzFest has been trying to book The Rolling Stones for years. First, Mick had to cancel due to a heart procedure. Then the pandemic. Fast forward to 2024, and a third try, Thursday, May 2 was Stones Day at JazzFest.

The setup was very different from a typical JazzFest day. The Stones played the Festival Stage, the largest space at the Fest. There was music at the other stages and tents, but all activities ended at 3 PM, in anticipation of a 5 PM Stones start time.

The logistics allowed for chairs around the rear perimeter of the grounds, while the rest of the space was allocated for standing room only. My standing days are over. We brought chairs.

The Stones exceeded our expectations. The sound was great, and the set list included a number of older classics: “Get Off of My Cloud”, “Out of Time”, “Paint It Black”, and a great “Time is on My Side” , sung with the “Soul Queen of New Orleans”, Irma Thomas, who the Stones covered back in 1964.
