I’m not sure where I’m heading with this. It’s New Year Day, 2024. I’m 74 years old. I don’t intend to write a diary or some form of life journal. I don’t think writing about my life would be particularly interesting to anyone other than myself. But maybe that's the point. When first thinking about a blog, I was all over the place: travels, activities, family, current events. I knew I did not want to write solely about politics, but this going to be difficult in 2024.

And, if no politics, why call this The Pogo Report? Pogo was a daily newspaper comic strip that was published between 1948 and 1975. Walt Kelly was Pogo's creator, which followed the adventures of a group of animal characters who lived in Okefenokee Swamp located in Georgia. The main protagonist, Pogo Possum, presided over the cast, commenting on the human condition, and often satirizing the folly of politics. There was a time, not that long ago, when Americans could enjoy and laugh at the folly and foibles of politics. But it seems we are beyond that point, and have been for quite some time. As Pogo stated, "We have met the enemy, and it is us".

And so, this blog will be, in the immortal words of Dr. John, Dis, Dat or D'Udda. All over the place.
