The Next Chapter

On Wednesday, May 14, my former colleague, Rob Scherer, chaired his final Ashland Select Board meeting. After nine years, Rob is leaving the Board, and his contributions were acknowledged and celebrated at the meeting. Rob is unique in the annals of Select Board history, having served a three-year term in 1995, and then rejoining the Board in 2015 for nine years.

Rob brought passion, humor, compassion and empathy to his role as a Select Board member. His passions were numerous, and included the Upper Charles Trail, the Town’s sustainability efforts, and various modes of transportation (public, bicycling & walking). Rob was an instrumental part of the efforts against the Eversource pipeline expansion.

I did not know Rob very well when we first started to work together in 2015. Our relationship evolved into a friendship, and I always looked forward to our conversations. I hope Rob felt the same.

And so I raise a toast to Rob for a job well done. Live long and prosper.
