You can't take Jersey out of the boy

To be clear from the start, I love Boston. I have lived in Metrowest Boston for most of my 74 years. But I do not consider myself a Bostonian. My wife and son were both born and raised here. I was born in Paterson, NJ, grew up in East Paterson (now Elmwood Park).

Over the past 8 or so years, I have been visiting New York City on a fairly regular basis, both as father-son and husband-wife trips. And despite living in Massachusetts for over 50 years, I realize, for various reasons, that I consider myself a metropolitan New Yorker by birth and upbringing.

Growing up in Bergen County, it was an easy bus ride down Route 4, across the George Washington Bridge, to the Port Authority Terminal. From there, the City was ours to explore and discover. It was during times when the world seemed safer than today, and parents were not as protective as today’s parents need to be. Besides the solol explorations, our family day trips were often to the City, whether Coney Island, Rockaway Beach, or Central Park.

There is nothing like live music, and our NYC trips are always planned around a music performance or performances. But not only music. The sheer number of both large and small museums in the City is staggering. As this blog continues to develop, I hope to share some of what we find exciting when visiting the City.
